This piece was done a few years ago...I wanted to depict a labourer (large muscular hands) that was very ashamed to have to beg.
His pride took a back step to the reality of bad fortune.
It's been and more than likely will always be a fear of mine -- lack of fortune.
Fortune to me doesn't necessarily mean to be very wealthy...obviously money has a role but a modest amount of money to the right person can be a fortune.
A person who enjoys the simple things in life, not entangled in materials and objects will have the perception the he/she has good fortune because of family, friends and an overall postive outlook in life.

Very nice piece. I like what you wrote as well. But don't fear a lack of fortune or that's what you'll attract to you. If you picture yourself enjoying a fortunate life, and feel it and believe it, then that is what you'll attract. It's a hard way to think because most of us aren't wired that way. I'm working on it myself! Anyway, it's the ancient law of attraction.
I really like this, like the style and the palette. Interestingly I didn't read the image as you intended - I read something else entirely, someone about to find out what their fortune was as they picked up the object in front of them, but too afraid to look. For me though, that does not in anyway detract from the work.
